
The Black Horse Story
- November 2012 – After identifying a strategic growth opportunity in the global pressure pumping industry, Caterpillar partnered with Ariel Corporation and created Black Horse LLC, a 50/50 joint venture.
- December 2012 - Black Horse LLC, acquired ProSource Technologies, LLC of Houston, TX, to produce well stimulation pumps and related products for the Oil & Gas industry.
- January 2013 - Black Horse operations and engineering teams with significant support from Caterpillar and Ariel Corporations embarked on a journey to build a world class well stimulation pump design and production capability. The core pump and fluid end product offerings were enhanced and expanded through the use of our parent companies’ design expertise, R&D lab capabilities and experienced personnel. At the same time, operational process improvements were initiated, completed and production capacity was expanded.
- September 2014 – Black Horse develops and implements a new state of the art proprietary Autofrettage capability incorporating advanced computer controls, pressure monitoring and safety enhancements to improve this critical fluid end durability enhancing process.
- April 2015 – Utilizing advanced materials, computer modeling, and testing laboratory capabilities, a new line of extended life Cat® Valves & Seats was introduced. Typical valve life improvements ranging from 1.5x to 2.0x were achieved and validated.
- July 2015 – Black Horse triples the size of their operational footprint by moving into brand new, purpose built facilities with dedicated Product Development, Quality and Training capacities.
- July 2016 – Black Horse completes a new, state of the art pump testing facility at the main production campus in Houston, TX. The 3,000hp facility gives Black Horse an unparalleled capability to perform and monitor end of line testing on new or repaired pumps and power ends, as well as the ability to test an entire pressure pumping trailer when necessary.
- Today – Black Horse is not standing still. Leading edge technologies continue to be introduced in the areas of: Product Design, Field Service, Product Support, Supply Chain Management, along with Production and Assembly concepts. Our team has a strong belief that everything we do deserves to be done perfectly, and that we can always find ways to improve our performance.
